The Ice Climbers were SUPPOSED to be hitting me in the knees, but I think the way it actually turned out is a lot closer to what the weather genuinely felt like.

Yes, Yoink, I know I already equ ated DC in February with getting physically assaulted by Elsa, but since I experienced it so much more -and for so much longer- this year, I feel totally justified in bringing the joke back by dragging it out to uncomfortable lengths. Because WOW I got cold. Just, like, STUPIDLY cold.

And before I go any further, we have to make absolutely clear that I LIKE cold weather. I'm still half-convinced I was swapped at birth with some Siberian kid, winter is hands down my favorite time of year. I don't complain about being too cold. That's like... That's Hideo Kojima being afraid an idea is too obtuse for audiences to easily digest. That's classic Gainax deciding a bit of fancervice is a bit too pandering. That's Jim Cornette not being bitter over something that happened 30 years ago. IT. DOESN'T. HAPPEN. Buuuuuuuuut even my love of cold weather must at some point rely on being properly prepared for it, and I most certainly was not prepared for this ordeal. That is, I was prepared to be outside long enough to walk across the street in sub-freezing temperatures, I was NOT prepared to walk several blocks in sub-freezing temperatures. It doesn't sound like a lot, but when you're lacking basic essentials like a pair of gloves, every extra step makes a big difference. Add the CONSTANT wind off the Potomac (whic h I've ALSO already mentioned in comic form) to the mix, and this weekend ended up being every bit as physically punishing as even the most sweltering of Otakons. So yeah, I pretty much HAD to revisit this theme... or maybe I just REEEEAAAAALLY wanted to have an excuse to make a Snow Bros reference in a comic. How often does THAT come up?

...and on a purely art-griping note: WOW the screen tone effects malfunctioned on this page. It wasn't SUPPOSED to look like I'm getting pummeled by airborne flannel patterns, I just seem to have done something DRASTICALLY wrong while scaling and pasting all the various sections of this page together. I guess there's something appropriate in the comic that's physically assaulting me being the one that totally malfunctions.

This is what living in Minnesota is like.

...and there's the thing: if I were actually LIVING in these conditions 24/7, I'd have gloves on me by default out of sheer habit, not realize I forgot to bring any when I'm two states away from my house.
