...and that's why I stoped doing Artist Alley
Or, at least, ONE of the reasons why; I've already gone on at CONSIDERABLE length about the other reasons. Since Conventional Wisdom doesn't lend itself very well to most types of merchandise I can actually produce, I leaned really hard on parodies of popular stuff for print material. For a while, it worked pretty well. Those Squid Girl posters were really big when that was at its peak, and the Attack on Titan aspect of one of them made for a twofer of trendiness. The problem was, I couldn't keep it up. The older I get, the more I just don't give a crap about keeping up with what other people think is popular, especially since it so rarely happens to be stuff I'd watch just for my own amusement. I can't tell you how many times I've seen something and thought "Oh yeah, that's the new show that just came out," only to realize that it was actually YEARS old and everyone had long since moved on. I just don't have the energy to stay on top of things anymore, people. That's just one more reason I'm trying to give Conventional Wisdom its own universe of fictional shows to reference. I can't be behind the times if I constantly exist outside of time itself!

Speaking of which, it doesn't come across very well in the finished page, but "Historic Bloodshed Maidens" was conceived as sort of a ripoff of John Woo movies, what with the cool suits and sunglasses and slow motion and hyper-stylized gun fights and melodramatic stories about honor and betrayal and crap, only all the characters are cute moe girls. Hey, it's hardly the weirdest thing "but they're all cute girls" has been stuck to the end of.

@ Blitz: I can totally see that being made into an anime, but it ends up being too generic to be seen anywhere outside of Japan.

I can see "Considerable" as a new convention name, for some reason...

CptNerd: If ConCONcon ever has a staff civil war, the staffers who leave will start "ConSiderable"

DD: I think the biggest problem an anime like this would actually have is finding the budget to animate that many flowing slow motion overcoats. Whole shows would probably require fewer frames than one good, John Woo style Diving And Shooting While Doves Fly In The Background sequence.

and if it does well, expect a dozen more like it.
@Blitz - Well, yeah, sure, if they were to do it *well*. But how often is that actually a concern? Just animate 60 seconds of flowing slow motion overcoat moves, swap them up in various different orders with various different backgrounds, and you've got a good 13 whole episodes! 14 if you count the OVA where the same characters do the same moves, but in bikinis!

...and then there'd be the original manga it's based off of that turns out to be ten times better (and longer running) than the animated adaptation.

The Manga was great, but the Web Novel version was even better - having a slow motion fight scene described verbally over the span of a dozen chapters released sporadically over the period of a month really brings out the tension! Although you really have to read it in Japanese to get the full effect, or so I hear.
